- The 18 suspects involved in the murder of Jamal Khashoggi will be prosecuted in Saudi Arabia
- President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey had earlier called for the extradition of the suspects
- Khashoggi was a Saudi Arabian journalist and a critic of the Saudi government
Saudi Arabia's foreign minister, Adel al Jubeir, has said the 18 suspects in the murder of journalist Jamal Kashoggi will be prosecuted in Saudi Arabia.
TRT World reports that Jubeir stated this on Saturday, October 27, in response to a call by Turkey for the extradition of the suspects.
Legit.ng gathers that the minister said investigation into the murder of the journalist would take time. He said: "On the issue of extradition, the individuals are Saudi nationals. They're detained in Saudi Arabia, and the investigation is in Saudi Arabia, and they will be prosecuted in Saudi Arabia."
Recall that on Friday, October 26, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, called for the extradition of the suspects, who were said to be citizens of Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that secretary of state Mike Pompeo on Tuesday, October 23, said that the United Stated (US) was "taking appropriate actions" against Saudi Arabia in reaction to the killing of a Saudi Arabian journalist, Jamal Khashoggi.
Those actions include revoking visas and entering visa lookouts as well as working with the Treasury Department to consider slapping Magnitsky sanctions on those involved in the journalist's slaying.
Pompeo told newmen at the State Department: "These penalties will not be the last word on this matter from the United States. We will continue to explore additional measures to hold those responsible accountable."
A bipartisan group of senators sent a letter to President Donald Trump earlier in October 2018, triggering an investigation through the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act into Khashoggi's disappearance at the time.

In a previous report by Legit.ng, a source claimed to have heard a recording capturing the moment Jamal Khashoggi was dragged into a study and surgically dismembered.
Khashoggi was said to have visited the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, on Tuesday, October 2, to pick up paperwork he needed to get married.
His murderers allegedly listened to music on their headphones while surgically dismembering his body.
The anonymous source claimed that the journalist, who wrote critically about the Saudis for the Washington Post, could be heard screaming as he was dragged from the consul general’s office to a desk in the next door study.
According to the source, the consul general was taken out of the room before Khashoggi was "injected with an unknown drug".
