Nigeria Move Four Places To 44 In FIFA October Rankings
Nigeria have climbed to No.44 in the October Fifa world rankings following their statement victory over Libya in Uyo, Akwa Ibom in the African Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifier played earlier this month.
Gernot Rohr's side having started the AFCON qualifier with a home defeat to South Africa had to get a result against Libya, who led the group at the time, if they are to stand a chance of qualifying for the finals for the first time in six years having last qualifier in 2013 when they won the title.
With a first leg victory in the bag, Nigeria went on to win the second leg in Tunisia 3 - 2 three days later to go top of the group ahead of South Africa who dropped to second place after a surprise away draw to Seychelles.
Madagascar, who earlier this month qualified for their first AFCON finals, climbed into the top 100 for the first time since 2002. They were ranked 100th.
Tunisia, 22nd, were the highest ranked African with Senegal following closely behind after failing to move from the 25th position.
Tunisia and Senegal leads the way in Africa respectively with Nigeria following at third while Congo DR who dropped six places are fourth and followed by Morocco at fifth.
Egypt moved up six places and are not ranked ninth in Africa and 58th in the world rankings.
Cameroon, Ghana, Burkina Faso are sixth, seventh and eight respectively while Côte d'Ivoire completes the top 10 ranking in Africa.
